Mario Merz

Mario Merz is labelled as being part of the Arte Povera group of artists that emerged in Italy in the 1960's who engaged with conceptual art. The approach of Arte Povera was similar to the Fluxus movement at the time. Formal and conceptual experimentation to redefine approaches to making art were central to Arte Povera. Merz developed installation based work the used a range of media from found objects, organic matter and neon lighting to produce iconic "igloo" structures that incorporated iconic phrases.
